When you're enjoying your vape, it's easy to forget about the moving parts that make it all work smoothly. But it's important to make sure that you take care of your vape pen battery. Maintaining your batteries will not only help them to perform better, it will also make them last longer. This means more time enjoying your vape and less time and money spent replacing parts or buying new devices.

Lets get into the steps you can take to make sure that your wax pen battery has a long life and optimal performance.

1. Clean the contacts regularly.

This is the most important thing you can do to keep your battery running smoothly. All you have to do is take a Q tip and gently scrape off any dirt, debris or oil that may have accumulated around the connecting point of the battery. You should also check for any signs of corrosion—if you see any greenish-colored residue around where the battery connects, then you are due for a good cleaning.

2. Avoid using a leaky or defective cartridge.

If a cartridge is defective or the oil viscosity is not ideal for the cartridge, it can result in oil leaking into the threading area. When this oil builds up near the connection point, it can prevent your battery from firing.

In some cases, oil leaking onto the connection might make your cartridge and battery stick together and damage the battery or atomizer when you try to separate them.  510 thread batteries transfer voltage to the cartridge through a connection plate. This plate can become dislodged if there is oil built up between the cartridge and battery. By using a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol, you can clean these connection points and avoid any unnecessary build up.

3. Don't over-tighten when attaching parts to the battery

A common problem is that the battery may be over-tightened when attaching the charger or when screwing on the vape cartridge.  That pushes the connection plate down and could cause it to make poor contact or dislodge when you try to separate. Don’t worry too much if this happens as the connection plate is simple to adjust yourself, if you do see any separation, you may be able to gently push down the connection plate down into its original position. If your battery has a warranty, it is better to reach out to the company before attempting any repairs yourself.

If this doesn’t do the trick, it is possible that you will need to perform the same adjustment on the cartridge which also has its own connection plate. Check the connection plate on the bottom of the cartridge or atomizer that you are using and adjust gently if it looks out of place.

4. Keep batteries out of extreme temperatures

Never leave your wax pen battery exposed to extreme temperatures, this can mean leaving your battery in the car in the winter or summer. As with any type of battery, exposure to extreme temperatures can be dangerous, or cause unnecessary corrosion. When the battery is not in use, make sure that you keep it out of direct sunlight and don't let them get too cold.

5. Charge your battery properly.

If you are looking to keep your battery in the best shape possible, you should properly charge your battery. Well, you may be wondering how to charge a vape battery, keep in mind that there are many variations of batteries and how long each one takes to fully charge will vary.

Try not to keep your batteries plugged in after they are fully charged, or overnight as this can cause deterioration to the battery. You should never leave a charging battery unattended, and especially not near any flammable objects, such as fabric, carpet or wood. Most 510-batteries, or 510-battery chargers will have a light change that indicates when your battery is fully charged. Keep an eye out for this light and remove the battery from the charger when it is fully charged to keep your battery in the best shape possible.

If you know that you won’t be using a battery for a while, be sure to charge it fully before storing it away. If you don’t do this, and you store your battery only partially charged, it may drain slowly while you aren’t using it. This can decrease your battery’s life span and cause you to have to replace it sooner.

6. Buy a Battery that will last.

When purchasing a new wax pen battery, choosing a high-quality battery will ensure that you are getting a battery that will last. Like all electronics, there will be a point where your battery is not functioning in the same way it was when you purchased it. It is important to choose a reliable battery so that this time doesn't come earlier than it should. When purchasing a battery, it is a good idea to look into if there is a warranty offered. Our Linx wax pen batteries are all covered with a one-year warranty to guarantee that you get the most out of your wax pen battery.
